Job Description

Purpose of Role

To execute mechanical installations, commissioning, inspections and maintenance on camp utilities, process support equipment and site facilities, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule and to specification while laying the foundations for a smooth hand-over to steady-state operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs; plan, measure and [AD1] install pipe-work (carbon steel, stainless, HDPE) and structural supports.
Install, align and commission pumps, compressors, borehole pumps, gearboxes, HVAC packages, small generators and utility skids.
Carry out preservation, tagging and QA/QC inspections of free-issue equipment received into the Bonded Warehouse; raise NCRs where required.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on camp water reticulation and sewage,—keeping downtime below 5 %.
Develop job safety analyses (JSAs), lock-out/tag-out plans and hot-work permits; drive a zero-harm culture in line with ISO 45001 and Mine SHE standards.
Compile daily work reports, material requisitions and condition monitoring records for inclusion in the project hand-over dossier.
Mentor apprentices and semi-skilled assistants, transferring practical fitting, rigging and safety skills.
Participate in spares identification, critical-stock listing and the creation of equipment masters for operational readiness.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Class 1 Journeyman Fitter (apprenticeship-served) plus 5 years post-trade experience in mining, heavy industrial or large-scale construction projects.
Demonstrated competence in installation and commissioning of pumps, piping, rotating equipment and light structural steel.
Sound knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, flange management and precision alignment (dial-indicator / laser).
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, isometric sketches and equipment data sheets.
Working familiarity with ISO, SANS and [AD1] standards for pressure piping and HVAC.
Clean Class 4 driver’s licence; medically fit for work at heights and in confined spaces.
Computer literate (MS Office; basic CMMS exposure an advantage).
