Job Description

  1. As our Shift Supervisor Miningyour responsibilities will include but not limited to:Manage a secure and safe work environment where employees can deliver their outputs within a controlled work environment, free from harm
  2. Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance with our operating license
  3. Escalate any operational and SHE-related matters in time to the responsible Section Managers / Manager Mining(s)
  4. Quality Control: Maintain quality control measures to ensure that materials fed into the processing plant meet required standards and specifications
  5. Equipment Supervision: Maintain and manage the operation of equipment used in the mining operations area and material transport, ensuring optimal performance and addressing issues promptly
  6. Communication: Maintain effective communication with team members, supervisors, and other departments to relay information, address challenges, and ensure a coordinated workflow
  7. Data Recording: Record and maintain accurate data related to mining operations activities, material quantities, and quality metrics for reporting and analysis
  8. Problem Resolution: Address and resolve operational challenges, technical issues, and discrepancies within mining operations
  9. Shift Reporting: Prepare comprehensive shift reports detailing activities, accomplishments, challenges, and any incidents or deviations from standard procedures
  10. Training and Development: Provide guidance and support to team members, facilitating training sessions as needed to enhance skills and knowledge within the team
  11. Process Optimization: Collaborate with relevant teams to optimise block preparation and material feeding processes, improving efficiency and productivity
  12. Sustainability and Social: Execute the delivery of sustainability activities relevant to the discipline
  13. Comply with environmental and social requirements as relevant to the disciplineImplement environmental and social risk mitigation techniquesImplement sustainability initiatives relevant to the work area and progress report
  14. Act consistently with sustainability expectations
  15. Ensure a purpose-led, high-performing culture, applying the company values and principles of inclusion and diversity
  16. Actively engage as a team member in all team processes
  17. Provide input for a draft of communication materials to understand the operation’s goals and directions
  18. Implement management processes within the work area
  19. Assign tasks to ensure sufficient coverage for team members, accounting for planned leave and absenteeism
  20. Review task performance and manage underperformance as appropriate
  21. Ensure participation in required training (e.g., safety, compliance, refresher, etc.)
  22. Provide coaching and appropriate feedback to individuals and teams across all shifts
  23. Adhere to Anglo American compliance requirements and ensure compliance of the team
  24. Conduct site inspections to identify and escalate non-compliance
  25. Conduct investigation of incidents (safety, health, environmental and social) within the work area.
  26. Follow the appropriate process and establish the root causeIdentify, report on and escalate incidents properly and promptly
  27. Close out incidents, capture and implement learnings
  28. Share learnings within teams across all shiftsThis role is in Mining (MIN) department on a band 7.8 level reporting to the Shift Coordinator

Qualifications

  1. Grade 12 / N3 certificate
  2. Diploma or equivalent qualification in Mining (Advantage)
  3. SA Drivers Licence
  4. Competency ADMRE approved Blasting Certificate
  5. A2 Safety Training and Legal Liability (Advantage)

    Technical Knowledge

    1. Knowledge of operational processes within the scope of the role
    2. Basic understanding of commercial explosive products and their properties, including initiation systems
    3. Documentation, sign-off and approval processes
    4. Risk management techniques and critical controls
    5. Leadership tools for implementing a culture of purpose-led, high-performance and change
    6. Safety, health and environment, legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements

    Experience

    1. 3 years relevant experience
