Job Summary

South African water utility Rand Water is offering a learnership and training programme to the South African youth. The institution which was established back in 1903 has become one of the biggest water utilities in the world which provides water to over 12 million people in the country.

Rand Water has built a proud history of never failing to provide its obligated services continually hence growing the economy. The Organisation which now employes over a thousand workers has been consistent with its aim of Economic growth and Empowerment.

It has become a home of graduates who have acquired scarce critical skills and general hand workers who provide day to day running and manual labour in line with National Skills Development Strategy III pillars.The learnership program aims to train and encourage South African Youths into industrialisation of the country and service delivery. Below are some ways in which one can be part and apply for this learnership program.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Applicants must not be employed.
  2. Applicants must not be enrolled with any institution for a qualification nor be registered in any Learnership Programme.
  3. Applicants must not be in possession of a completed post-matric qualification

(NB: Failure to disclose post-matric qualifications will result in applicant being disqualified)

  • Applicants in possession of a post-matric qualification must not apply and will not be considered.
  • Applicants must have a Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science (minimum of Level 3 in ALL subjects)
  • Applicants must submit / attach SAQA / NLRD verification report (Obtainable from SAQA website)
  • Applicants must be a South African citizen and be in possession of a valid SA ID.
  • Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age (in line with the NSDSIII).

The following documents must accompany your application

  1. A certified copy of the ID document
  2. Proof of residence
  3. Certified copy of Matric Certificate
  4. SAQA / NLRD verification report
  5. CV

Primary Duties

  1. Assisting in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants.
  2. Monitoring water and wastewater quality parameters.
  3. Conducting basic laboratory tests.
  4. Assisting in the maintenance of equipment and instruments.
  5. Participating in water and wastewater sampling and analysis.
  6. Attending classes as part of the learnership program.
  7. Participating in discussions and activities during classes.
  8. Completing assignments and projects as required.
  9. Writing assessments and practical logbook to evaluate knowledge and understanding.
