Purpose of Job

To achieve defined performance targets in section through building of operator capabilities and planning, organizing and controlling the day-to-day Mining activities.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

  1. Manage crew to meet production targets Manage safety, health and environmental issues in section
  2. Ensure competence of crew
  3. Demonstrate continuous drive to improve Act as Relieving Shift Boss at times
  4. Manage more complex mining activities Identify training and development needs of crew
  5. Ensure adequate materials availability in section SAP inputs when acting as Shift Boss Represent Shift Boss in OE meetings and transfer knowledge of OE reports to other Miners and Artisans Ensure to take reasonable measures to ensure the health and safety of employees responsible for inspection
  6. Oversee safe transport of team to and from the section
  7. Conduct start and end of shift inspections
  8. Conduct statutory inspections e.g. gas & ventilation tests
  9. Complete statutory reports
  10. Perform risk assessments Perform task observations
  11. Conduct at least rescue drill with team per month to rescue room and after all section moves
  12. Oversee housekeeping of section
  13. Ensure team uses PPE and hand tools correctly
  14. Do fire patrol when necessary
  15. Ensure operators adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and Codes of Practice Command performance meetings with crew members
  16. Manage attendance of crew Submit accurate and fully completed section reports on time Maintain accurate operator records (e.g. valid licensing of operators)
  17. Request necessary in section mining materials and resources
  18. Ensure availability of adequate materials in section
  19. Do SAP inputs (e.g. time and attendance and placing orders PTP when relieving shift boss)
  20. Represent Shift Boss in Operational Excellence meetings
  21. Transfer knowledge of Operational Excellence reports to other Miners and Artisans
  22. Manage pillar extraction section (where applicable)
  23. Act as relieving Shift Boss when required
  24. Compliance to elements measured by audits and checks by manager
  25. Rectify findings on audit results
  26. Work completed to plan
  27. Minimum wastage and disruptions to production due to resource availability NQF standards and training matrix requirements met
  28. Responsible for personal training and development needs
  29. Demonstrate self discipline by complying with legal and other requirements Achieve people development targets for shift (KPIâÂ.Â.s and personal development plans)
  30. Coach operators in section
  31. Ensure all coaching and training is understood and applied by operators Identify training and development needs of team and address them in consultation with other role players
  32. Provide timely and constructive feedback to team members on their performance and address non-conformance
  33. Understand mine requirements and ensures product / services meets mine requirements
  34. Effective networking and liaison with technical, engineering and financial departments
  35. Ensure transition of work from own shift to next shift
  36. Apply new ideas / work methods to improve results
  37. Provide information / assist with projects with technical / support functions
  38. Assist with implementation of organizational change initiatives within own team

Formal Education

  1. National Senior Certificate/ Full N3 (with Maths and English/Business English)
  2. Valid Blasting Certificate (for Fiery Mines)
  3. Valid First Aid CertificateValid Red Ticket (or ability to obtain one)
  4. Valid driver’s license
  5. Gas Testing certificate (8 gasses)

Competencies

  1. A Min Experience Experience: 2+ relevant years of underground coal mining Professional Membership
  2. Certifications C_
  3. Blasting Certificate (Underground)
  4. C_Gas Testing Certificate
  5. C_Flameproof Certificate
