Operator Learnership At Bidvest Tank Terminals- Apply

Introducing the Learnership Opportunity

Bidvest Tank Terminals (BTT) is offering a learnership in Chemical Operations (NQF Level 3) based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This is a temporary position, created to empower and train learners to gain practical skills and experience that facilitate smooth integration into the chemical operations workplace. There are nine (9) positions available.

Minimum Requirements for Applicants

To be considered for this learnership, applicants must meet several essential criteria:

  • Matric qualification is required, with preference given to those who have taken Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Applicants must hold a valid South African identity document (be SA citizens).
  • Prior completion of Chemical Operations NQF Level 1 and 2 is mandatory.
  • Ability to work safely in a chemical plant environment is essential.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn are critical.

These requirements ensure learners have a foundational knowledge base, are legally eligible, and are suited (both mentally and physically) to the operational demands of a chemical plant.

Duties and Responsibilities

The main thrust of the learnership is skill development through practical training. Key responsibilities include:

  • Training learners in various practical skills needed in chemical operations.
  • Providing on-the-job work experience, enabling hands-on learning in real operational contexts.

This combination of structured training plus live experience is designed to ensure that successful candidates are not just theoretically prepared but practically capable.

Desired Competencies

While skills can be built, certain personal qualities and competencies will help learners thrive:

  • Ability to work in a logical and organised manner.
  • Strong workplace ethics.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High levels of integrity and ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Capacity to work well independently and as part of a team.

These competencies ensure that learners will adapt well to industrial environments where rules, safety, coordination, and teamwork are crucial.

Employment Equity and Internal Applications

Bidvest Tank Terminals holds a strong commitment to Employment Equity. In line with their policy:

  • Internal candidates (current employees) will be considered first, provided doing so supports the achievement of their equity goals.
  • External applicants are also welcome and will be evaluated fairly if internal options do not fully meet equity or operational requirements.

This stance helps ensure inclusive recruitment while recognizing existing talent.

Why This Is a Valuable Opportunity

For many young graduates or individuals with NQF Levels 1 and 2 in chemical operations, this learnership is a golden chance:

  • It bridges the gap between theory and real-world chemical plant tasks.
  • It enhances employability by equipping learners with both formal training and hands-on exposure.
  • It may open doors to further opportunities within BTT or in the broader chemical operations sector.

How to Apply & Deadlines

Interested candidates should ensure their applications are submitted before the closing date, which is 24 September 2025. Pay attention to completing all required documentation and making sure your profile is up-to-date so your application is considered.
